I have a MRF 45 Engel with transit cover, I found as you have that the cover doesn't really make any great difference. However I had some Kingspan under roof insulation which is about 8 to 9 mm thick and about R2 insulation value so I put 2 layers under the Engel not covering the compressor vents and one layer around 3 sides of the fridge box with the transit cover back on. that made considerable difference in time between compressor cycling. Engel seems to lose a lot of temp out of the bottom of the fridge for some reason. I wondered about air flow through the mesh problem which you have proven to be an issue. Thank you for the video
You're welcome! I think you're right, the Engel can definitely benefit from better insulation, I never thought about the bottom though!
Top video. My 80's 1hz is now over 700 k km's and due for a t-belt and water pump job plus shim adjustment. Original 1hz to my 80 from 1992. With water pump gaskets on the 1hz and my cars I usually use a smear of Loctite 518 on the front and back of the gasket.
700k!
Too bad they’re illegal!😬
Low beams yes, not high beams
Have seen some videos that show fuel economy improves with backward facing. Probably due to power loss. Maybe an experiment for you?
Great idea!
Should be tapering both ends before burying fir a smoother transition
Great suggestion!
I’ve just purchased the 15v converter, what’s the go with fuses, do you install 1 on the input and out put sides? I already have 1 on the travel buddy wiring so was thinking on the out put side would be over kill?
Great video, very professional installation and good on road performance comparison. Youve sold me! And yes, look at heavy vehicles, construction, if they have a snorkel it’s a ram head. When it comes to diesels with pre filters, and other stuff, always look at those heavy applications, there’s a reason.
Exactly!
Where do I get that rope needle.
I like this to my kegerator fridges up in Darwin. In the buildup - the sides of the fridges are burning hot due to the fridge working so hard to try cool the intervals that it burns itself up. It's basically always running in extreme heat and barely reaches 4 degrees it's target. In the winter, no problem, sides are cool
You caaaaan do this without rippin the carpet up bit finicky but doable only issue on my 80 is the actual round housing on the gearbox has broken so now stuck on what to do
You probably can, but it's a pain without pulling up the mats.
I absolutely dont have the money for a new cv axel let alone all these special tools. I do have a shit ton of tools. Everything i have it should have came off. I just now got the 12 point 30 mm cv axel nut off the front of the hub and now the hub bolts on the back of the hub assembly are seized and the cv boot is exactly behind them i can barly get ANY tool in there to even try to get the bolts out but the little i can get a tool onto these bolts it's just NOT grabbing and its so seized the vehicle cant move 😢 do you have any tips for these bolts on the back of the hub? I had to heat up the 12 point cv nut for 10 minutes then take a candle and melt it on there. Wait 5 minutes then i gave it my every bit of strength with a 5ft breaker bar with a 3 ft extension to get the one nut free. Idk what to do at this point. It's been a week, and i just now got this 1 bolt off 😢. All of this because i took my baby to a piece of shit disingenuous "mechanic" when i had not even time to shower and never checked. Never ever again will anyone ever touch my vehicles but me. I paid over $400 to have the front 2 hubs done and they were never even touched. 😔if you get back to me i would appreciate it so much if not ill be bustin my ass trying to save my truck today. After a nap. 😮💨
Please make a video on tie downs for it
I think I will!
I always assumed the cover made a difference where you couldn't get the fridge in the shade. When boating wy icebox gets smoking hot in the sun, now after buying a portable fridge I'm building a DIY cover for it so the cover can soak up the sun and not directly heat up the top of the fridge. Won't be using mesh in front of the ventilation holes tho ;)
Not for the Engel!
@@LockyourHubs4WDing But you did the test in the shade right? I believe the situation will be different in direct sunlight during the day ( I understand that this specific scenario does not apply to everyone) Will keep the compressor part of the fridge uninsulated after watching your video for sure, hoping it will help the compressor run cooler. Thank you for the extremely detailed video, as a tinkerer and an engineer this truly is great content (found your channel today so this was my first video)
@@hampuslytz5393 there's another video on the channel looking at hot weather (well for Victoria anyway!) where the fridge had full sun, from east to west
@@LockyourHubs4WDing I stand corrected! Damn that just does not make senese, but the numbers sure proves it, so frustrating 😂 Yeah man we come nowhere near as warm where I live, wish we had those summer temps in Finland 😁. Will change plans and not insulate the part where compressor lives at all, to help mitigate the problems mentione in yor video, but if I can find stabile enogh weather I will probably need to do some testing myself at some point. I already have the materials so might as well use them to try it out, happy I didn't spend money buying one at least 😅 Best regards from Finland!
I have 2 brass monkey fridge freezers 55litre & 75litre With camo covers Bluetooth there awesome.
Mine's running 24/7, so far hasn't missed a beat
Great myth busting for both videos, had suspicions about the mesh, I’ve noticed airflow difference with screen doors, tent and swag mesh flaps. Might split the difference and cut the mesh out and get some canopy ventilation. Only time I run low on solar power is in the tropics when it’s hot and overcast for days. Thanks.
You definitely want canopy ventilation, filtered positive pressured fan feeding air into the canopy. I'm looking at that at the moment.
@@LockyourHubs4WDing I’m putting a small solar powered marine vent and inlet vent in the canopy roof just to help it breathe a little.
Thank you for this informative and valuable video that's well put together. Great test results that are very useful.
You're welcome!
Thanks
Thanks mate, I appreciate it!
Is it necessary to add dry ice? I understand that it is to pressurize the bottle again.
Hey mate I swapped the head and installed the cam, but it was off timing when installed. ive been bottoming out pistons and valves back and fourth slowly to reach timing, where do all 3 timing marks have to sit when setting with a new head?
I first say great work. 2 questions when did Toyota start to use 5 lug hubs on land cruiser rear full float axles and are the bearing the same as those used in Hilux front hub , thanks for any help
Are you able to use either of these options on the quick connect canosto?
Excellent explanation, thanks so much. I plan to use this as you've indicated, and then another easyas relay between my alternator and 1.5kw inverter wired to my truck (with 270 amp alternator) that is used for tools and other alternating current appliances. The truck doesnt have a large lithium battery to run the inverter, so inverter should only run from alternator.
Why do all these fridge companies put the reflective layer on the inside of the covers, and then put a dark colour on the outside? Nice review as usual
I agree, radiation heating is an issue, and dark colours definitely don't help.
Hilarious mate.
The most comprehensive test for a fridge I've ever watched. Actual real world info
Thanks mate, exactly what I'm aiming for!
That what I have done several times, the good one is the new one is older than bevore but the vid was canceled.🗣
Just watched it and found it excellent.Brilliant relaxed tutorial getting all information you would need to do the job.
Glad you enjoyed it
And what is the pressure difference at the throttle body?
No idea! I didn't measure either side of the throttle body.
I imagine after the air filter any difference would be negligible and compensated for by the fuel management computer. Likely more difference with altitude changes.
I just brought kickass new oven with digital temperture gauge and have two heating elements. 12v 260w ... watching your video 15v 15A ... i look up for converter step up .. just wondering if i can use 12v to 24v 20Amp .... ... but 260w / 12v mean 21.6A !!! Not sure what i can do ....get 30A if have or not thanks
Really enjoy watching your videos Cobber, thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Best car video we ever seen.
Thanks!
Tolong skema kan untuk motor supra GTR . Saya dari indonesia tidak terlalu lancar bahasa inggris. Dari aki positif dan negatif yang mana. Dan buat ke saklar dan ke dinamo yang mana. Terima kasih From indonesia❤
Cant this be used as a leak tester as well?
I guess so.
@@LockyourHubs4WDing many thanks.... I mean does it need to be tdc for checking a suspected head gasket? With this its pretty random but once pressure is reached watch the gauge go down ? Is that correct? Thanks
@@tituslane4929 it's best to test at TDC

That's another great reason to solder!
G'day, did you have to drop the diff oil prior to doing this? Great video, cheers
No, not at all.
I didn't get why you did not choose a 1/2 pipe and instead you used a 3/8, if you want more CFM
You forgot to upset the silicone fraternity!
I might buy one from iTECHWORLD OR KICKASS NOW '' You put me off Kings

Very well put together video, Amazing work and well detailed, Best CV Joint Boot Replacement Video on the internet
Thanks!
Great idea but you should have used a metal hammer to knock out your socket . cheers
I just grabbed whatever was handy.
so one is 300 usd and one is like 3400 USD? how about a winch in the front for 1200 USD?
The original tirfor has certainly risen in price since video has been published!
Just replace the entire axle. Its much less hassle & you don’t need all these tools.
That's definitely an option if one's available.
Very informative great analysis, subscribed
Thanks!
Do I need to lock the diff before removing the axle?
If you're talking about standard factory lockers fitted to the 70 series, yes it's a decent idea for alignment purposes, if it's aftermarket like an ARB, it doesn't matter.
Soldering is reversible if you decide you need to change something.
That's definitely an advantage.
I love my 15brass for day trips or solo trips. Only thing I hate is it uses more power than my 60L engel
It's pretty thirsty!
following your video on a 85 FJ62, by the way what is the blue stuff your using, can't quiet make out what you said.
Just a gasket silicon sealant.
I use the dent crimpers often found on stamped plate wire strippers on the handles just before the jaws. Light force results in a dent about 2mm diameter, 1mm deep. I do one about 3mm from the bottom of the wire receptacle (where it becomes a cylindrical shape, just above the dome) and another about 4mm higher, on the opposite side. I strip the wire to expose 2-3mm more than the depth of the receptacle. I then fill it to the level of the upper edge of the second dent with molten solder (usually that's about 3/4 full), heat the contact and bottom of the receptacle for 10 seconds using a butane torch, and jam the wire in hard so the strands have to bend to allow the entire stripped length to go in. The dents aren't deep enough to obstruct the wire, but once the solder solidifies it is virtually impossible to remove the wire even if the solder completely breaks free and separates from the inside surface of the connector, because the shape of the solder plug makes any movement impossible, and the bent wire strands also greatly reduce the likelihood of slippage (which is already extremely unlikely but I figure it can't hurt to make it even less likely).
